DigiLocker API helps you verify your customers in the most compliant and quickest way.
IDfy’s Digilocker solution fetches verified documents straight from the respective issuers like UIDAI and the IT department and sends them directly to your platform.
For 100% Digilocker compliance, it is necessary that you redirect your customers to the DigiLocker page. IDfy’s API enables you to create a customized Digilocker URL based on IDfy’s Digilocker requestor license.

Customer must be mandatorily redirected to the DigiLocker page
Customers must enter their Aadhaar details, OTP, and captcha themselves
The verification must be performed by a requesting partner who is DigiLocker authorized

How it works
The data points you receive depend on the documents you’re pulling from Digilocker – for example, if you are pulling an Aadhaar, then you’ll get all the details like Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Address, Aadhaar photo, masked Aadhaar number, as well as the actual pdf of the Aadhaar card.

DigiLocker FAQs
- Any document fetched via DigiLocker is considered a "verified" document as per the IT ACT, 2000. The Aadhaar and PAN are fed into DigiLocker by the UIDAI and the Income Tax Department respectively.
- A user need not have a DigiLocker account to use IDfy's DigiLocker solution - IDfy can fetch the user's DigiLocker documents with their consent even if they don't have an already existing DigiLocker account.
- For fetching a verified Aadhaar from DigiLocker, having a pre-existing DigiLocker account is not necessary.
- We can fetch the Aadhaar and PAN details from DigiLocker even if the customer does not have an existing DigiLocker account. The account is created on the fly in a seamless, non-intrusive manner. The customer just needs to input their Aadhaar number and OTP.
On every DigiLocker account, UIDAI automatically ensures that the associated Aadhaar details are present. Users need not manually upload/fetch their Aadhaar card into their DigiLocker account.
Only regulated entities who have an AUA/KUA license are legally allowed to do a direct UIDAI integration. Since IDfy doesn't have an AUA/KUA license (as we are not a regulated entity), we are not legally allowed to directly fetch details from UIDAI.
We are aware that certain players take the Aadhaar number and OTP straight on the mobile app, and NOT on the DigiLocker website. This is done to avoid showing the DigiLocker website to the end customer. However, as per DigiLocker guidelines, this practice is illegal (let us know in case you want more details on this); therefore we do not follow this practice.
- We do not believe that this will negatively impact the customer experience, as exactly the same inputs are needed to be entered by the customer anyway (Aadhaar Number + OTP).
- The integration with IDfy’s DigiLocker solution can be built such that the end customer stays within your app/website itself. We can enable the DigiLocker website to load within your application as a web view. This will allow you to be 100% compliant and have a seamless customer UX.
